Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. The leaves are changing colors, I can wear warm sweaters every day, and I get to pumpkin spice my life.
With the leaves, sweaters, and pumpkin spice comes another layer of fun, decorating the house for fall. But if you don't have a lot of time to spend to make things from scratch and you are clueless to what to do when it comes to decorating for fall, I have you covered.
In this post, I'm going to share 10 quick and easy ways you can decorate your home for the fall season. This 10 tips that I'm going to share aren't going to take a ton of time or break the bank!
These are things that I do in my home each year and I wanted to share them with you. Also, each tip that I'm sharing only takes a few minutes to do and will make your home ready for fall!
I've also put a lovely checklist together for you so when you are ready to spruce up your home for the fall season you'll have a guide to refer back to.
Change out the candles for a fall scent
When I said I get to pumpkin spice everything this is somewhat what I meant. I love candles they are a simple way to help your home from smelling stuffy. Every day I like to open the windows for a few minutes and then light a candle or two.
Allowing the candle to burn for a little while allows your home to start smelling more like fall. This is a very simple way to get your home ready for the fall season.
Add beautiful garland to the mantle
Every season I have a new garland decorating our mantle. It's a simple thing that I think makes the home feel homier.
Garland is so easy to find and store. You can find them at any big box store, craft store, or even decorating store (depending on how much you want to spend).
Another great thing about garland is, you can use the same one year after year!
Add pine cones and faux leaves to a glass container
How simple is that? You can even get the pine cones that smell like cinnamon and really make your home smell amazing.
What I did here was a simple glass container, some pine cones, faux leaves, a candle, and a small string of lights. The glass container, candle, and lights I use every day I just switch out the decorations each season to spruce it up a little.
I store the items in a small box so it takes me no time to switch everything out.
Change out your curtains for heavier winter curtains
Now you may consider this more of a maintenance thing, but I like to switch out my curtains during the fall season for darker, warmer curtains. I live in an area that gets quite cold during the fall and winter months so having warmer curtains help keep the cold out and the warmth in.
This will also remind you to launder the other set of curtains. By doing this you are cutting down the dust in the home helping you keep and clean and well-maintained home.
Add a mum plant or two inside the home
I feel like mums are the official fall flower. When I see them I just think of fall, pumpkin spice, and sweaters. When they start popping up at the stores I cannot wait to grab a few to add to the coffee table, kitchen island, and my front entryway.
You don't have to do much for this, they sell mums inside beautiful planters so you don't have to do any extra work. Purchase a few, place them where they'll be safe, remember to water and feed them and you've got yourself instant fall inside your home.
Add pumpkins to the table and counters
Those small cute pumpkins can make a big impact on your fall decor. You can pick up a few or a lot and add them around the home. I like to add them with a runner, greenery, and pinecones on my table.
When we sit down to eat it makes us all feel like fall is here.
Change out the spring and summer blankets for fall and winter blankets
I have 2 sets of blankets, spring and summer, and fall and winter. I find the colors work together and the blankets I use in the spring and summer are not as heavy as the ones I use in the fall and winter.
So about this time of year, I pack up my spring and summer blankets and unpack my fall and winter blankets.
This might take me a little bit to do because I do make sure I wash the blankets before I add them to the chairs and couches.
Add a fall wreath, pumpkins, and mums to the front porch
A simple front porch makeover is key to getting your home ready for the fall season. I have my designated box that I pull out each year that has my fall wreaths. Then it's a tradition that the family heads out to the pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins for decorating, carving, and baking.
Change out the table clothes and napkins for fall colors
Again, a quick and simple switch a roo. I have a box that I use that have my table clothes, place mats, napkins, and napkin rings in them so I switch out the drawer with the fall set. Each meal we sit and know that fall is here.
Change the essential oil diffuser for the fall recipes
Do you have an essential oil diffuser? If not, my friend it is time to. This is a simple way to make your entire home smell amazing.
Sure I love candles and yes, I light them every day but an essential oil diffuser can help in so many other ways than just making your home smell nice.
You can change out the oil if you have a headache, are feeling depressed, if someone is sick, and so much more.
For many years I didn't understand people who got onto the essential oil bandwagon. Until my doctor suggested me getting essential oils for my headaches. This suggestion opened my eyes into a whole new light.
So as you know (since I've said it a few times...) I love pumpkin spice. The smell of cinnamon and clove just makes me think of fall.
If you're ready to add a little fall into your essential oil diffuser all you need to do is add:
- 2 drops of orange
- 2 drop of cinnamon
- 1 drop of clove
- 4 drops of vanilla
- 1 drop of nutmeg
This mixture will allow your home to really smell like fall!
